Jan. 28, 2007 Choosing a name
First of all there seems to be so many opinions out there about naming an adoptive child, especially a child from another country who has possibly been given a name, either by their birth family or the orphanage that cares for them. Many people feel strongly that you must keep the name or part of it so the child has something from their culture and history to carry with them. I feel everyone should do what they feel is important to them and their family.Chris and I felt that we wanted our daughter to have a name that everyone she meets will be able to pronounce , but will use her Vietnamese given first name as a second middle name.Being "type A" I immediately thought the best way to choose a name was to start a list. Oh how I love my lists....So start a list I did! then after the list was completed I painstakingly researched each name on the Internet to find the meanings and origins of each name. My list complete, I lovingly presented it to my husband, so proud of the work I had done, certain he would love at least one of the names I had presented him with. Well unfortunately there was not a name on the list he liked. Having had the privilege of having two children and naming them I decided to give up the control (not easy) and gave Chris the honor of choosing our daughter's name(provided I get to choose the middle name. I still need to have a little control) This is how the name Paige was decided on. He really likes it and it is starting to grow on me. So this is how our future daughter got her name Paige Christina(insert Vietnamese given first name here) Boegelsack.
